Francis M. Leahy Elementary also known as Leahy Elementary for short is now physically located inside the newly rebuilt Francis M. Leahy building at 100 Erving Avenue in the city of Lawrence. The school and the building are named after a native of Lawrence and World War One Hero who died in action in France. The original school building was named after him in the year 1921 and his name will carry over to the newly rebuilt school building at the start of August of the year 2025 when the school reopens.
Leahy School Building Project
As the Lawrence School Department revitalizes its educational programs, the design of the school buildings that support those programs are critical in creating a new vision for the future of Lawrence. The Francis M. Leahy building, named after a hero from World War 1 was built in 1921 and no longer meets the needs of 21st century students. Having served Lawrence students for over 100 years, Leahy School is burdened with a deteriorated and outdated infrastructure, which can no longer support educational programs and student needs.
