Pedro Martinez Foundation held the kick off of their new Lawrence Afterschool Coding Program today with many excited students at the South Lawrence East. Students learned that they can sign up for this special program that will teach 3rd and 4th graders from seven Lawrence Public Schools basic coding from October-December. Wally the Red Sox mascot danced with the kids and Pedro and Carolina Martinez spent some time answering questions and even playing ball. Thank you to all the partners who made this event possible today.

Thank you to retired Judge Mark Newman for visiting the 1st grade class of Ms. McCoombe and Ms. Abreu today at the South Lawrence East School! The students listened to a book read by Judge Newman and talked about why it is important to go to school. They were recorded as part of the September is Attendance month - stay tuned for "Attendance Matters Every Day Counts" videos coming out soon!

Families at the Breen School visited the Kindergarten and PreK classes in a recent Open House event. Parents met with teachers and learned about other local resources available to them.

More than 250 people attended the first two sessions of ELPAC  held at the Lawrence Public Library in the morning and the NCEC in the evening. Parents learn about important information and resources that will help their children succeed in school.

Tuesday, September 8th is "Welcome to School" for all PreK and Kindergarten students in Lawrence Public Schools! Hennessey School was busy with an Open House event to get their students ready. We hope everyone enjoys the Labor Day weekend and we will see you Tuesday!

Student talent once again brought the house down with their performances at the annual Lawrence Public Schools Opening Day event. Singing, dancing and instrumentals were enjoyed by all District staff and guests. We are looking forward to a great school year!

Staff at Guilmette Elementary were welcomed back today with a beautiful new staff lounge created by Wellpoint and Boston Bruins Foundation. Bruins' mascot Blades was on hand for photos and each staff member received some merch and school supplies that will be well used in their classrooms. Thank you to everyone who participated in making this a very special place!

They are in their new location at 41 Lexington St in the former Lawlor School building and besides registration they can help with supplies, resources and even uniforms through Catie's Closet.
