Saludos Lawrence Public Schools community,
I am excited to announce Lawrence Public Schools has officially embarked on a strategic planning process that will shape the future of our district. Building on the foundation of our turnaround plan, this effort comes at a critical time. After more than a decade in receivership, we are preparing for a transition that will return local control to our district.
As I shared in my December 2024 letter to families, we are launching this strategic planning process with the goal of guiding our work in the years to come. This plan will establish a clear vision, set core values, and incorporate input from key stakeholders to ensure we align around a shared commitment to student success.
This strategic plan will lay the groundwork for Lawrence Public Schools’ next chapter – creating even greater opportunities for success as we continue our focus on enhancing student achievement. Most importantly, it will be crafted with and for our community. Students, families, staff, and community members will have a voice in this process, and your input will be crucial to our collective success.
Over the next several months, we will:
- Review district data to identify our strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth
- Collect input from our school community through surveys, focus groups, and community meetings
- Collaboratively create a clear vision for student success in Lawrence
- Develop a focused, actionable plan to guide our decisions and investments for the years ahead
This plan aims to structure our school system so that every student in Lawrence has access to high-quality learning and the support they need to thrive. It’s also about building a world-class education model, with exceptional educators at its core; an unwavering commitment to deep family partnership; innovative and adaptable school leadership; and a community that proudly embraces the unique culture that is our city’s and schools’ greatest source of strength.
In the coming months, we will engage with you through email, text messages, our website and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram), and various school channels. I encourage you to actively participate and share your thoughts as we embark on this important journey. Together, we can create a strategic direction that reflects the hopes and aspirations of our entire community and ensures a bright future for every Lawrence student.
