Saludos Lawrence Public Schools families.

As our 2024-25 school year comes to an end, I want to thank you all for an incredible first year as LPS Superintendent, and recognize the many successes and achievements I have been privileged to help celebrate all over our district these past few weeks.

This includes a special congratulations to all our students celebrating the leap to their next adventure – whether it is fourth graders who will soon proudly call themselves LPS middle schoolers, our 1,100-plus eighth graders entering high school, or the 789 seniors who recently crossed the stage as part of our record-breaking high school Class of 2025. Everyone at LPS is proud of you!

Before we officially close out the year, here are some important notes and reminders about what is expected to be a very busy summer for LPS:

  • For most schools the last day of the year is tomorrow, Tuesday, June 17, and it is a half day. Families at the Leahy, Oliver Middle and School for Exceptional Studies should note that those schools’ final day is Wednesday, June 18; RISE Academy’s last day is Wednesday, June 25.
  • The 2025 LPS Summer Reading Lists for K-8 students are ready! They will be shared by your child’s school and posted to the LPS website, and copies of the selected books will be available at the Lawrence Public Library. If you or your child don’t yet have a library card, you find the Library Card Application Form here.
  • The free Summer Meals program will start serving breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday on June 30 at seven LPS sites. See the linked flyer for other city locations and more details.
  • For students participating in summer school, remember your first day is Monday, June 30. We look forward to seeing you in two weeks!
  • We are very excited to open the new Oliver and Leahy schools in just two short months. As we prepare for them to welcome 2,000 K-8 students from four other locations, we are also able to move multiple schools and programs into those newly vacated buildings. It’s great news for the many students and staff who will have new and improved LPS homes in 2025-26, but it is a lot of work over the summer! Thanks to our incredible facilities team and all the other LPS staff who will make it happen, and to all of you for your patience while they do.
  • Among those moves will be our Department of Student, Family and Community Engagement and its Family Resource Center, which will move to its new location at 1 Parker St. over the summer. Stay tuned for more details soon.

Thank you again for your support of our student, schools and community throughout the past year. We continue to make great strides as a district, and I am confident even bigger things lay ahead in 2025-26.

Respectfully,
Ralph Carrero
